On behalf of the recently created Noke Koi Federation – which aims to organize and unite the people – we are inviting you to stand with us as allies for the ‘original peoples’ of the Amazon rainforest. As supporters of the indigenous, it is important that we help empower them and stand with them through the ups and downs of life.

We come to you today with sad news of the incarceration and now house arrest of two Noke Koi brothers – a Chief and a paje (healer) – from the Gregorio river region in Acre, Brazil.

As you might imagine, life in the Amazon is not the same as it used to be. With significantly challenging living conditions, many indigenous are now traveling the world, looking for opportunities to raise funds to support their families and villages to cover basic necessities such as food, clean water, housing, and more.

Apy and Vana Noke Koi were invited to Chile to bring cultural exchange and indigenous workshops and unfortunately, they have been detained and were imprisoned by the Chilean government for carrying their sacred medicine from the Amazon. Their medicine is an ancestral sacred element of their culture, and a powerful tool for healing.

Not respecting this is a violation of their indigenous cultural rights.

The community has been helping these two brothers navigate this tricky situation and has been able to support their release from the prison and steward them into a house arrest where they are more comfortable. But there is more to be done in order to clear their names and get their release back to their home and families in the Amazon.

The Noke Koi community has hired a respectable and experienced team of lawyers who have generously offered a discounted price for their services but the costs are still high. We are seeking to raise $20,000 USD as soon as possible to cover all legal fees and lawyer costs and free Api and Vana.
