Please Help Us Bring Our Grandfather and Uncle Home

On Thursday, October 30th, around 4:30 PM, our lives changed in an instant. My grandfather, Delfino, and my uncle, Guadalupe (Tío Lupe), were both detained while they were simply at work — doing what they’ve always done: working hard to provide for their families.

That afternoon, they were taken away, separated from each other and from all of us. At first, they were both brought to 26 Federal Plaza in New York, but soon after, they were sent to different detention centers — one in Pennsylvania and the other in New Jersey.

Since that moment, our family has been heartbroken and filled with worry. We’ve been trying to stay strong, to take each day one step at a time, but the uncertainty and fear can be overwhelming. It’s hard not to feel lost when two of the most caring, hardworking men in our family are suddenly gone.

We never imagined this could happen to them. My grandfather and uncle are kind, humble men — people who’ve spent their lives helping others and building a life here. New York is their home.

We were blessed to find a lawyer who is willing to represent both of them, even with such little time to prepare. My grandfather’s court date is November 6th, and my uncle’s is November 17th — both coming up very soon. But in order for the lawyer to fully take on their cases, we need to raise enough funds to cover the legal costs.

We know that money can’t guarantee the outcome we’re praying for, but it can give us a fighting chance — and right now, that chance means everything.

Their absence has left a huge hole in our family, not just emotionally but also financially. My aunt is now trying to carry so much on her shoulders — finding work, caring for her children, managing the home, and somehow staying strong through it all.

El jueves 30 de octubre, alrededor de las 4:30 de la tarde, nuestras vidas cambiaron por completo.

Mi abuelo, Delfino, y mi tío, Guadalupe (Tío Lupe), fueron detenidos mientras estaban en su trabajo — haciendo lo que siempre han hecho: trabajar duro para sacar adelante a sus familias.

Ese día fueron separados el uno del otro y de todos nosotros. Al principio, los llevaron a 26 Federal Plaza en Nueva York, pero poco después los enviaron a centros de detención diferentes — uno en Pensilvania y otro en Nueva Jersey.

Desde ese momento, nuestra familia ha estado con el corazón roto y llena de angustia. Intentamos mantener la calma y tener fe, pero la incertidumbre y el miedo son muy difíciles de soportar. Es devastador no tenerlos aquí, sabiendo que dos hombres tan nobles y trabajadores están lejos de su hogar.

Jamás imaginamos que algo así pudiera pasarles. Mi abuelo y mi tío son personas humildes, de gran corazón, que siempre han trabajado y ayudado a los demás. Nueva York es su hogar.

Gracias a Dios, encontramos un abogado dispuesto a representarlos a los dos, aun con tan poco tiempo para prepararse. La audiencia de mi abuelo es el 6 de noviembre, y la de mi tío es el 17 de noviembre, fechas que se acercan muy rápido. Pero para que el abogado pueda continuar con sus casos, necesitamos reunir fondos suficientes para cubrir los gastos legales.

Sabemos que el dinero no puede garantizar el resultado que tanto deseamos, pero sí puede darnos una oportunidad — y en este momento, esa oportunidad significa todo para nosotros.

Su ausencia ha dejado un gran vacío en nuestra familia, no solo emocionalmente, sino también económicamente. Mi tía ahora carga con muchas responsabilidades: buscar trabajo, cuidar de sus hijos, mantener el hogar y seguir adelante a pesar del dolor.
