Hi I’m Meagan Heisinger,
(formally known as Meagan Lane)
I have always wanted to search for my father. I finally got the money to afford an ancestry test earlier this year. I felt at a loss understanding my DNA and all the stuff it said, so I contacted an ancestry angel. She helped me find my family. She found my father; unfortunately, he has died and is an unclaimed veteran at Washington State Cemetery.
I need to prove next of kin before I can move him to Fort Logan Cemetery in Colorado, which will be free minus a $15 permit fee and fees for a funeral home to handle picking him up and shipping his remains in the mail to me. He spent most of his life in Colorado. I contacted the coroner in Pierce County where he died; they still have some DNA. They said in order to do DNA testing, I have to go to the courts and file a petition for paternity, which is gonna cost $268 to file and another $600 to do the paternity test. Apparently this is much more complex and I will have to get a lawyer as well to help me with what to exactly to file and so I will have to add cost for fees for a lawyer to help me.
I am asking for help to bring my father home. I did not get the opportunity to know him and spend time with him. I would really love it if he could be out here in Colorado so I can visit him whenever I would like. And in order to do that, I have to prove he’s my father. I missed out on having my father around in my life; please help me not miss out on any more time with him.
I am asking for more than I need for extra things like his DD214, Birth certificate, death certificate, fees to mail him to me, fees from funeral home to pick him up, and any other fees I may need.
I would love to go see my dad as it will take time to get him out here if I’m at all able to raise more than the goal.
