A mother's fight for justice:Help bring Danny home

Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Supporters,
My name is Michele, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help. I am embarking on a difficult journey to regain custody of my 14-year-old son, Daniel, who has been wrongfully taken from my care. This involuntary separation from my son has left me feeling empty and broken.
Our story has been one of resilience and determination in the face of unimaginable challenges. I have been Daniel's primary residential parent since 2015, and despite sharing him kindly with his other family, we have faced a traumatic event that has upended our lives.
At the end of my second marriage, we experienced a horrifying incident in South Carolina, where my ex-husband suffered a severe mental breakdown, attempting to end my life. Fleeing the state became a necessity for our safety, and I sought refuge with my parents for comfort and financial support. Throughout this ordeal, I kept Daniel's father informed about every move, but instead of understanding our plight, he sought legal action to have our child ordered back to the home state, even though there was no longer a home or support system for us there.
I had to make the heart-wrenching decision to surrender Daniel to his father and grandparents temporarily, while I returned to Colorado to work and save money to fight for our future in court. Daniel made it clear that he wanted to live with me, and throughout 2022, he visited me in Colorado during parenting time.
In July 2023, after another visit, Daniel refused to return to North Carolina, expressing his desire to stay with me. Despite our efforts to avoid a courtroom battle, a modification of custody hearing was scheduled. Trusting that we could resolve this amicably, Daniel's other family agreed to cancel the hearing.
However, in the fall of 2023, during a holiday visit, they breached our agreement. We sent Daniel to North Carolina to spend the Christmas holiday with his father, and instead of returning him as promised on January 2nd, they took advantage of the situation. They proceeded to hold a custody hearing without my presence, and my primary residential custody was unjustly stripped away, leaving me as a mere visitation parent, located thousands of miles away from my son. As it currently stands, due to my geographic location, it would not be feasible to spend any meaningful time with my son and be within the current visitation rules.
This is where I need your help. I am launching a fundraising campaign to gather the necessary funds for attorney fees, as I fight to bring Daniel back into my custody. All proceeds will go toward hiring a skilled lawyer who can help me navigate the legal system and fight for our rights.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in our fight for justice and reunification. I am grateful for your support, and together, we can ensure that Daniel returns to the loving home he deserves.
Thank you for being a ray of hope in our darkest hour.
With sincere gratitude,
Michele
