Help Brielle's Family Journey to Health and Happiness

Hello, my name is Jaimee Norg, sister of Chelsie Norg and Auntie of the beautiful Brielle Layne Pickett. After over one year of consistent ups and downs surrounding Brielle’s health, I feel it’s time to lean in on all of you for support. Here’s the beginning of her story.

Brielle was born with an extremely rare genetic disorder that has complicated much of her first year of life. So rare, that there’s only 100 cases worldwide and not a single doctor that specializes in it. It wasn't until Brielle was three months old, when she contracted RSV, did most of these findings come to light. After three weeks in the hospital, Chelsie and Justin opted for genetic testing and she was diagnosed shortly after. She has experienced many of the features this genetic disorder can cause, quite early in life. Her kidneys and liver have been affected and diagnosed. She is in stage 4 kidney failure of her chronic kidney disease. She will most likely need dialysis in the future until she is able to get a kidney transplant. Her liver function has remained but is closely monitored. She was born with low muscle tone that has caused developmental delays. She has therapy 3x per week but all of these hospitalizations have slowed her momentum. She presents delayed visual maturation and we won't truly know how well she sees until she is a bit older.

Brielle is the toughest little girl we know. She's been hospitalized eight times in her first year. She’s endured countless pokes all over her body, intubations, more ultrasounds and X-rays than we can count, multiple MRI's, a CT scan and an upcoming bronchoscopy and lung biopsy. This heavy load has made it impossible for Chelsie to work as she’s Brielle's caretaker around the clock. Plus trips to Devos, Mott's or Bronson multiple times a week for appointments, all while keeping up with their son Carter. This has heavily impacted my sister and her family, and has been incredibly tough on them.

We’ve reached a place of comfortability to share some of Brielle’s story this far, and a place of hope that some of you may be able to help support this beautiful family and their uncharted journey ahead.
