Brian Baker is one of my best friends, and one of the kindest people I know. We met outside of Portland, Oregon, and over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how much he cares for others. Brian is 44 years old and stands 6-foot-9—a gentle giant who once played college basketball. Unfortunately, those years on the court led to serious injuries. He’s had multiple surgeries on his legs and knees, including replacements and repairs for broken bones. Now, he struggles to get around and is considered disabled.
Brian used to work with people with developmental disabilities, a job he loved. But since his own disability, he’s only been able to apply for remote work. He recently lost a job he found through a staffing agency and has been applying to new positions every day. He’s had a couple of interviews, but nothing has come through yet. To make ends meet, Brian sold his favorite car—a Ford Mustang—to pay rent, but those funds are almost gone. He’s now facing the very real threat of homelessness, with no way to pay rent next month and little family support since his mother passed away.
I’m reaching out because it’s awful to see such a great person in such a tough situation. Life has thrown Brian a ton of fireballs—disability, his mother’s death, and just trying to make it through. The money raised here will go directly to keeping a roof over his head and food on his table while he continues his job search. Any help would mean the world to him and keep him safe while he gets back on his feet. Thank you for reading and for any support you can give.
