A donor made this YouTube video, I found out about it just today. And brought me to tears. Thank you Alice.
Brattleboro Rides would like to give back to the Brattleboro community.
Hello, my name is Donald Stolpp, owner and operator of Brattleboro Rides in Brattleboro. I grew up in Brattleboro and have been in the area for 51 years. I have witnessed this town do some amazing things and some terrible things over the years.
We all know the struggles Brattleboro is dealing with now, but no matter how you may feel about a homeless person, or a person struggling with addiction or mental illness we all need to remember we are all humans.
This morning on my way to pick up my first customer at 5:30am it was 27 degrees out and I saw a man on a bench under a packing blanket to stay warm.
I know it's easy to turn a blind eye to these problems around our community, but we shouldn't. It doesn't matter what your personal beliefs are a human being is a human being.
My point is, this small community has been and can be amazingly generous when needed. AND IT IS NEEDED NOW!!
Now to my ask, Brattleboro Rides has been quietly giving back when we can. If we have a good week, I will go out and buy food for the homeless and hand it out. Also, with winter coming, I have been trying to purchase warm clothing for the less fortunate in our community.
I'm asking that you give what you can to help with this mission. If you can't give please share this.
Remember, ALL of us are just one bad day or one bad decision away from being homeless or panhandling to get food or warmth, so please don't judge others because you will never know or understand their entire story.
Many may say, these people could go to a food shelf or a emergency shelter, or get a job and this is true for some. But for various reasons such as availability, location, mental health, addiction these options are not feasible.
In the next few days I will be handing out the first batch of clothing, and I will take pictures. As you will see i managed to get a lot of items for just $200. Can you imagine what could be done with more.
Thank you, Brattleboro.
Any company that would like to make a sizable donation will be highlighted on Brattleboro Rides website www.brattleboborides.com and in a special binder in the car.
