Help Bob Settle in Korea (Unexpected move at 19)
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Gene. I've grown up with Bob (18), my youngest brother, in the US for most of our lives, but he needs to move to Korea on very short notice because of a change in his visa/family situation. Unlike me, he wasn't born in the US and will likely need to complete South Korea’s mandatory military service while he’s there.
This was not planned and he'll be leaving within the next 2 weeks, before his 19th birthday on August 30th (his flight is on August 24th*). We’re still working through it and trust it’ll work out, but the immediate costs to get him settled are tough for us right now.
I made this page for friends who asked how they could help. Please don’t feel any pressure to donate, as even just reading this and sending love already means a lot. If you’d like to chip in, contributions will go toward his first month(s) of living and setup in Korea, including:
- transit card and SIM/phone setup
- daily necessities he can’t bring from home
- basic groceries and food
- paperwork/legal fees
- a personal laptop
- other necessary expenses as he adjusts
He will have support from our aunt, so housing shouldn’t be a huge issue! This is purely just to support him financially as he figures things out.
Asking for support like this is new for us, but as his older brother, I want to make sure my brother is safe and able to settle in well. All funds will go directly to Bob once he has his accounts set up within the first few weeks of arriving. I’ll make an effort to update this page whenever I can.
Please only donate if you are able! Thank you again!
