Help Brett get Permanent Housing
Donation protected
Hello everyone, it’s Bobby and Melissa. We’re coming to you all humbly asking for your help in fundraising to relocate Melissa’s bio dad, Brett.
Melissa and I have been saving everything we can and have been working hard for the past two years to move to be closer to my kids who live in Texas and to be able to do more animal rescue. In July of 2024, and after Brett was rushed to the ER in critical health, we decided we were going yo bring him with us and care for him.
We are fundraising for his part and because he will be moving with us it’s going to be a lot more expensive. And because of his situation, it’s critical and time sensitive. When it was just us, we didn’t mind working hard and timing it based on our needs.
Papa Brett is homeless again after having lived in transitional housing for 8 months. In the past his addiction, schizophrenia and his TBI make it extremely difficult for him to hold down a stable place to live. But he is in recovery now by the Grace of God His mental capacity is that of a preteen. He has a difficult time regulating his emotions, words and actions. We cannot take Papa Brett in under our roof for multiple reasons.
1. the agency that approves renters would not approve him to live in the apartment complex we live in.
2. We are extremely limited in space and it isn’t enough space for both of us as it is…
…but we make it work, and have made it work for almost 5 years together. Melissa was in foster care from age 12-18. Then when she turned 18 she went and got her mom out of adult foster care and began caregiving for her. Mama Lesa had paranoid schizophrenia, CPTSD and agoraphobia. She passed in December of 2022. Melissa kept her mom safe from her dad, as papa Brett was capable of violent outbursts during drug psychosis if Mana Lesa didn’t give him what he wanted. After Mama Lesa’s passing, Melissa and I turned our efforts towards helping papa Brett get off the streets. Him getting into transitional housing was the first apartment he had had in 30 years.
They will not accept Brett into any placements, we have tried. With his health issues, brain injury, and schizophrenia, people don’t want to be responsible for that. Melissa has decided she will help take care of her dad. Even thought she has done that for her mother most of her adult life until her mother passed.
Bobby’s two kids are entering their high school years and he has been saving as much as he possibly can to buy an acre with a house on it in Texas so he can be closer to them. He finds it increasingly important to move to the country where he can begin his small homestead and continue supporting Melissa with her animal rescue and fostering endeavors.
This move would allow Bobby and Melissa to be closer to his kids, whom Melissa adores. They really like her too. It would allow us to get a house for Papa Brett to live on and provide a quiet place for him to live out his later years, off the streets and working on recovery. It would allow Bobby the space to garden and raise livestock and it would allow Melissa the freedom to expand her foster and rescue business.
Even though the median home price in 2024 in the United States is $419,000.00, we are good at finding market deals and plan on buying a foreclosure or bank owned property.
Thank you for reading our story and sending you so much love!
