My sister Jenna is a working single mom of three boys, Seth, Blake and Lucas. Her middle son, Blake, has had health issues and has been experiencing issues with breathing, shortness of breath, and pressure on his chest and a recent pulmonary function test has revealed signs of a chronic lung disease. Jenna is devastated and willing to do whatever it takes to treat his disease and make sure he has a healthy environment.
They believe many of his symptoms, if not the root cause, stems from issues with his bedroom. The house is over 70 years old, and Blake’s bedroom is completely framed by old wood with open attic space on both sides. Due to insufficient, old, and damp insulation that is falling from the walls is some spots, and with no drywall in the attic, his bedroom is cold and drafty in the winter and unbearably hot in the summer. It allows dust, dirt, allergens and bugs to get into the room and they fear there may be mold and possibly asbestos within the walls and insulation.
To make the space safe for him and his condition, the attic space and his bedroom need to be gutted right down to the studs and completely renovated replacing the old and damp framing, installing new insulation and flooring and adding drywall. Our dad will be doing all the actual physical work at no cost, but my sister supports her boys on a single income, and after having a rough time over the last year with her own health issues, she just doesn't have the means to fund the renovation on her own and continue making mortgage payments and feeding her family.
I’ve set up this Gofundme in the hopes of helping her raise the funds needed to give Blake a safe and healthy environment and the chance to live comfortably with his condition. Thank you!
