Help Birdie and her family

FIRST - GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL. He still has a plan. He still fought, died, and rose again for everyone who believes. We believe in Him. We believe in His healing power. We believe He has a plan and purpose for all things - for our good and His glory. 

Pathology confirmed that Lyla has ALL leukemia in her bone marrow. The original tests were on the blood itself which were inconclusive, showing 15% of lymphoblasts (25% is what indicates leukemia). Further testing on the bone itself, concluded Pre-B-Cell Leukemia. 

What this means: 

Lyla will go to surgery for a port placement and lumbar puncture tomorrow. The lumbar puncture will test for leukemia in her spinal fluid and give her the first chemotherapy treatment. She’ll undergo general anesthesia.

She’ll continue receiving iv chemotherapy until Sunday. And another lumbar puncture in 8 days. Then weekly treatments for the first month. Followed by monthly treatments for the next 3 years.

She’ll also be on oral steroids which could cause changes in mood and appetite.

Her first month will be her most “at risk” for infection. We’ll need to limit her interaction with anyone who is or may be sick. After the first 6-8 months, Lyla will be able to interact more normally. She should be able to start school on time. 

She will most likely lose her hair, have nausea, vomiting, and constipation.

LASTLY - I’ll repeat, God is still in control. He is not afraid or thwarted by cancer. He created our beautiful Lyla with a LIONESS spirit. She is strong and brave and soo full of life. We believe that her battle will be a testimony to God’s love and faithful. We are not alone in this battle. She is still help safely in His hands! I thank God that we caught this disease so quickly, that He has given us a community of family and friends that faithful pray for and support us on this journey. He is giving us strength to face this battle. He is giving us peace in the storm. He is enough!
