Help Billy on His Long Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Our beloved Billy, 24, has experienced a life-changing accident. He was involved in a serious car crash and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) in a medically induced coma. He has since made it out of the coma and is now breathing on his own and speaking, but his journey is far from over.

Billy sustained multiple severe injuries, some including:

An open broken femur, a closed broken femur, and an open broken tibia.

A broken wrist and a stable ankle fracture

Significant knee damage (torn ligaments and more)

Head contusion

After several complex surgeries to stabilize his bones and repair his legs, Billy is now facing a long and challenging recovery. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least six weeks, followed by an extended rehabilitation period.

Why We Need Your Help

Billy’s road to recovery will be long and expensive, and we are raising funds to help cover critical costs, including:

Accommodation: For family members who need to stay close to Billy during his hospital stay and rehabilitation.

Meals: Daily meals for family members supporting him.

Fuel and Tolls: Regular trips to and from the hospital.

Wheelchair Accessibility: Costs for a wheelchair, home modifications (ramps, rails), and any other accessibility needs.

Therapy Costs: Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and mental health support for Billy as he rebuilds his strength.

Medical Equipment and Expenses: Any unexpected medical costs, prescriptions, and specialized equipment.

Our Goal

We are aiming to raise $15,000 to ensure Billy has the support he needs to make the best possible recovery. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference.

Updates

We will keep this page updated with Billy’s progress as he goes through surgeries, rehabilitation, and his journey to recovery. Please check back for the latest news.

Sat 3rd May: Flown to RBWH in medically induced coma just after midnight. Went into surgery later that morning to put external fixators on to hold the broken bones in proper position until he was stable enough for the more complex surgery of repairing the damage.
They began waking Billy up. He then had his breathing tube removed and was able to start talking briefly.

Sun 4th May: We got the news that Billy no longer needed to be in ICU and was transferred later that day to the Orthopedic Ward.

Mon 5th May: Billy is doing well. Very tired and confused. Resting a lot today. His first surgery was rescheduled today.

Tues 6th May: Billy is a little more alert today. He had his first OT for his short term memory loss. He was able to eat a hungry Jack's burger which was a huge win.

Wed 7th May: Surgery Day!! This was a LONG day. He spent all day in surgery and they were able to repair all 3 legs with rods! No more external fixators which he was calling his "diff locks". He is keen to get a wheelchair although this may still take some time.
