Help Afghan refugee Bezhan buy a car for work
Donation protected
My name is Rose and I live in New Orleans. I'm raising funds for my friend, Bezhan Masjon, from Afghanistan. He and his family had to flee when the Taliban took over, braving the terrible road to the Kabul airport with his wife, Farzana, their 18-month-old boy, and their newborn girl - just 3 days old.
Bezhan's family have now resettled in North Carolina and Bezhan is eager to find work to support his family. Refugee resettlement aid ends in two months, and so Bezhan will need a job that pays well enough to cover all their expenses. In Afghanistan, Bezhan was wounded while working with the US Drug Enforcement Agency, and that injury restricts the type of employment he can seek. Having a car will make all the difference to him in finding suitable, adequately paid work.
This GoFundMe is to raise enough money for Bezhan to:
- buy a cheap but reliable car;
- pay the insurance;
- have money for gas.
The sooner Bezhan can get a car, the quicker he will be able to establish financial independence.
I have known Bezhan's wife, Farzana, for over a decade. I was her sponsor during her years at a wonderful school where boys and girls were taught in an environment of equality and diversity. I have maintained contact with her these many years, including messaging throughout the days when she and her family escaped from Kabul, were flown to a refugee camp in Indiana, and finally resettled in North Carolina. Farzana is an exceptional young woman. With their two children, Bezhan and Farzana hope to make a good life here in the USA and contribute to their community.
I will collect any funds raised and send them directly to Bezhan (who is currently in the process of getting an American bank account.)
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.
