My Name is Nancy, and I am humbly asking for help for my husband Benito Muro On January 18, 2026 our lives changed in a way we never imagined.
We were living in North Carolina when we first received the devastating call that Benito’s father had been in a terrible accident that left him paralyzed and in need of long‑term care. As the only son living in the United States, Benito felt a deep responsibility to be close to his father, so we made the decision to move to Chicago. We lived there for ten years, doing everything we could to build a stable life, but as the cost of living kept rising, we could no longer afford to stay. On November 24, 2025, we returned to North Carolina and moved in with my parents, hoping to rebuild.
Then, on January 18, 2026, we received another heartbreaking call—Benito’s father had suffered a heart attack, was rushed to the emergency room, and was dying. The only thing keeping him alive was the ventilator. Benito left immediately, desperate to reach his father in time to say goodbye.
As he and a friend traveled through heavy snow in Indiana, they were involved in a car accident. Benito was injured, and when police arrived, they asked for identification. He couldn’t provide it. The officer told him he was being detained, and instead of compassion for a son trying to reach his dying father, he was taken to jail and handed over to immigration.
All he wanted was to see his father one last time. Now, instead of being able to grieve, my children face the possibility of losing their father too. It feels unbearably unfair, and our family is hurting in ways words can barely express.
I am asking for any donation no matter the size to help us hire a lawyer and fight for my husband to come home to his family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your support, and your prayers during this painful time.
With gratitude,

Nancy
