Ben and Frank - Gay Parents Adoption Fund

We're Ben and Frank, a Philadelphia couple who (along with our dog Willow) are looking to expand our family through adoption in the next few years.

As two men, we can't go the "traditional" route, so consider this our "We're Pregnant!" post to friends and family - we're starting our journey to parenthood, and could not be more excited about it!

However, adoption is a costly (and sometimes risky) process...especially for same-sex parents. To put it frankly, adoption costs average around $40-60K these days. While there are some credits available that could potentially help us financially, there is still a large amount upfront needed to cover the various fees for adoption agencies, birth mother care (for newborn adoptions), etc.

So we're turning to our friends, family and community for a little support here. We own a lovely row-home in South Philly and frequently spend time with our local Philly queer "family" of friends and their kids. We want to parent a child in a loving, accepting way - while teaching about various forms of communication and expression early, so they never have to hide like society taught us to. We know any child that we are blessed to have in our life will be so very loved and supported, it's just getting them here that may be a bit of a hassle!

We're also highly creative people. Frank is a member of the Actor's Equity Association for professional theatre performers, and Ben has many hobbies like singing, songwriting and digital art. We're super excited to offer a Philadelphia-based LGBTQ+ family coloring book that Ben put together as a reward for folks who donate to help us: this book features 18 coloring pages created based on photographs of real Philly queer families, kind enough to help us on our journey to expanding our own.

We are set to be married soon, after 11 years together (and multiple COVID-related delays...) and are starting our saving fund for a child ideally in the next 2-5 years. We hope you'll be able to help us get a kickstart in this effort.
