Donate to Becka's Family: Overcoming Hurricane Helene

My name is Joy, and I live in Wind Lake, WI. I am raising funds for my niece, Rebekah (Becka) LaFond and her family of 5, who recently survived Hurricane Helene's destruction of their hometown of Hot Springs, NC. My niece Becka, her boyfriend John, and their three children, Eli, Emma, and Julian, all work and live in downtown Hot Springs, NC. Their town was almost wiped off the map by Hurricane Helene, much like many other small mountain towns in the NW corner of North Carolina. All 5 of the people living in my niece's house have lost their jobs due to the places they were employed being demolished by Hurricane Helene.

I know you may have heard that our government was giving $750.00 to each individual who was impacted by Hurricane Helene in those small NC towns that were literally wiped off the map. Well, I'll tell you this, that is NOT the case, and my niece's family was told they will not be receiving that assistance. My niece's family members all applied for unemployment, but a few of them are self-employed, so they did not receive any unemployment compensation, and the one person in her family who is receiving unemployment will not be receiving enough to sustain this family of 5.

I am starting this GoFundMe for my niece Becka and her family in order to help them pay their bills at this time and to help them get back on their feet. You might ask what I personally have done to help, and I will tell you this: I gave them a car and money, so they have transportation to apply for jobs, which are over an hour away from where they live in Hot Springs, NC. My husband drove a truckload of donations to the Hot Springs, NC community a week after the hurricane devastated this small, quaint mountain town.
