BCG is a grass roots community group fighting for collaborative council-led planning for housing growth, including a diversity of new homes in Boroondara that is well planned, retains liveability and where infrastructure requirements are fully funded.
BCG is entirely volunteer-run. While our committee generously contributes their time and expertise, effective community advocacy comes with real costs.
Funds raised will help cover the costs of corflutes, signage and other communications, communication platforms, printing costs, venue hire and other costs for community meetings and administrative and operational costs
Every dollar raised helps ensure residents remain informed about planning changes affecting their neighbourhoods.
Your contribution will help amplify community voices and support evidence-based advocacy for a liveable Boroondara. Together we can ensure that growth is planned well, communities are heard, and that Boroondara's liveability is retained for generations.
Many residents and businesses remain unaware of the rushed changes already in place and the consequences for the future liveability of Melbourne’s suburbs and Victoria’s country towns and cities. Whilst the media focus concentrates on the "Activity Centre Program" at Kew Junction, Hawthorn, Glenferrie, Auburn, Riversdale, Willison and Ashburton stations and the large surrounding residential catchments there is a suite of changes that limit community participation, override local Government decision-making and lower building standards that will shape neighbourhoods.
Rather than a nuanced conversation about growth new heights and building codes have been imposed in the hope that market forces will address affordability and need to limit urban sprawl. BCG is seeking that the State Government’s Activity Centres, new building costs and fast-track planning approvals be repealed, transparency, consultation and accountability restored in planning and that planning be restarted using a consultative and localised council-led approach.
