Help Barry's wish come true!
I'm Barry's mommy, Bethany.
At first glance you would never know Barry (who is 5) has had a rough start in life. He has faced numerous obstacles that even some adults don't face in a lifetime.
At 9 months old, he was faced with a stubborn fever from croup. An ordinary visit to his pediatrician soon turned to a nightmare. He was rushed to Akron Childrens Hospital ER within the hour and was admitted for 'something firm' his pediatrician felt in his abdomen. All the staff in the ER were in and out of his room constantly, running numerous tests, blood work, procedures etc. You can only imagine how we/he felt to be thrown into such thing, so randomly. All the doctors and nurses where acting so fast, no rest for a weary and tired baby who had cried his eyes out all day long from all these procedures and being poked and prodded over and over. You can only imagine the shock and horror at the end of the day where they tell you your son has an apple sized tumor in his belly, he has cancer. There are no words to describe such a feeling. Devastating would be undermining it.
Our wold quickly turned upside down.
He was in and out of the hospital for a month, some times days at a time. Soon his surgery was scheduled, Barry was 10 months old at this time. The AMAZING surgeons at ACH did a successful surgey on him, 100% removed that nasty monster growing inside him! After the biopsy came in, we were informed that he had low risk neuroblastoma. Next step was to do his second MIGB scan (had one before surgery too) and make sure it didn't spread, check his bones, check to see if there was anything left after surgery that the surgeons couldn't see, etc. Finally received the news we were praying for, Barry was cancer free! His low risk neuroblastoma was gone! For the next 5 years of his life he would be on a watch plan at ACH, family showers center for cancer and blood disorders. At first he was being seen every 3 months, then 6 months, then one year. These appointments were never easy for Barry but we made it!! This year finally marks year 5 and he is graduating from oncology completely! On day 1, we were terrified that he wouldn't make it to his 1st birthday. Now here we are, 5 years later and he's thriving! Through literal blood, sweat, tears and countless sleepless nights, Barry is finally seeing the light at the end of this oncology tunnel/journey.
This is our dream come true, our prayers have been answered and we have a healthy and energetic boy on our hands. He deserves the world!
We can't give him the world, but a celebratory trip to his dream place will do. Disney! We have had this trip in mind for him for awhile. We try our hardest to save and save, but life keeps throwing wrenches at us and our savings for Disney keeps getting less and less. This celebration for him is everything we have been wanting for him, it's everything he has been waiting for. He has not had your ordinary childhood, and he absolutely derves a little taste of life! See what lays beyond his little world at home. We ask to help make Barry's dream come true! To help this little boy celebrate such a huge milestone in his life!
