Thank You for Helping Grandpa – Now He Needs a Lawyer to Stay Free

Update:

Thank you so much to everyone who helped get my grandpa out of jail. Your support means the world to us. Now we face the next urgent step: getting him a lawyer before it’s too late.

My grandpa is almost 70 years old, a disabled veteran, and one of the kindest people I know. In March, over what we believe was an unwarranted parking citation or yard complaint, three police officers injured him. They threw him to the ground and ground his face into the pavement after he cursed in frustration.

He cursed because they said they were going to tow his truck, calling it “abandoned,” even though it was driven daily.

Since then, he has been repeatedly refused access to the evidence against him – mainly police bodycam footage – and pressured to take a plea deal.

After he refused to plead guilty to something he didn’t do, he was shoved by someone previously involved in his case. Instead of protecting him, the court charged *him* with a felony. They set his bond at $50,000, and he was thrown in jail, where his health rapidly declined.

Grandpa has no history of violence. There are no accusations of violence against him. All he has done is say non-threatening words and refuse to plead guilty to something he didn’t do – and now he’s paying the price.

He desperately needs a felony defense lawyer to fight these new charges and keep him out of prison. He is already paying an attorney for the first charge. He cannot afford two separate attorneys, but without one for this felony charge, he has no chance to prove what really happened.

Please, if you can help us raise funds for his legal defense, we would be forever grateful. Every dollar brings us closer to getting him the representation he deserves. If you can’t donate, please share his story.

Thank you for caring about him and giving us hope.

Help My Grandpa – A Disabled Veteran – Come Home

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m writing this with a very heavy heart.

My grandpa Barry Allen, is a veteran with severe disabilities, a devoted father, and the man who raised my sisters, and was there for me, when we needed him most. He’s one of the kindest, funniest, and most stubbornly good-hearted people I know — and right now, he’s sitting in jail for something we truly don’t believe he did.

He’s very sick. Grandpa has serious medical conditions, including diabetes, kidney disease, lung and heart problems. He needs daily monitoring by his medical providers, multiple medications, and breathing support when he sleeps. My family is terrified for his health and safety while he’s locked up without access to the VA care he needs.

This situation has completely shaken our family. My grandparents stepped in to raise my two younger sisters and looked out for me — and now I’m scared they’re going to lose everything. My grandma is doing everything she can to fight for him, but the legal costs are overwhelming. They have already spent a significant portion of their savings on legal fees. A defense attorney charges around $5,000 retainer just to get started, and $350 per hour afterward. They could lose their home, their major source of income, and everything they’ve built trying to get through this.

I know times are hard for everyone, but if there’s anything you can give — even just a few dollars — it would mean the world to us. If you can’t give, please share this. We just want to bring him home safely and give him a fair chance to fight this.

Thank you for reading. And thank you for caring about someone who means the world to us.

With love and hope,
Alyssa
