Help Barb Bring Care to Johannesburg

Hi all! My name is Barb, I am a Pediatric Cardiac ICU nurse and I am scheduled to attend the October 2024 Nurses with Purpose Medical Mission Trip to South Africa.

For me, this opportunity feels meant to be, as I never saw myself attending a mission trip. However, a last-minute meetup with a college friend led to the discussion of this incredible organization and after A LOT of thinking, I took it as a sign this is what I should do! Though this trip will not fall under my main focus of nursing, I am always looking for new ways to expand my knowledge and opportunities in my nursing career.

We will be visiting an orphanage, clinics and go out into the communities for home visits, as well as learning about the history and culture of the beautiful Johannesburg city and surrounding areas. For those that have never worked on a mission trip, it is completely a non-profit and therefore all funding for housing/security/transportation/food/flights comes from its volunteers, which quickly adds up! This specific organization also requests its volunteers to bring extra physical donations, such as toiletries, bandages, and other supplies that could be useful to clinics or the orphanage. Coming into this, I was aware the end cost would be great, therefore I’ve decided to try and find help here to cover some of the cost and any extra funds would be put to this organization.

I understand right now it may be difficult to donate, and with that being said I also would appreciate thoughts and prayers on my friend’s and my journey to South Africa. I appreciate everything and thank you all so much for taking the time to read my story!
