This fundraiser has been set up to help with parking costs, transportation, food, loss of work and whatever the future may hold for the family of Trevor, Kelsey, Carson and Myles Swannell.
After a difficult pregnancy full of several uncertainties, Myles Paul Swannell was born at London Children’s Hospital on January 12th, 2022 at 12:40am. Kelsey and Trevor stayed at the Ronald McDonald House and Myles stayed in the NICU for a few days so that Myles could undergo testing to ensure he was healthy enough to go home and meet his big brother Carson. Ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, and other tests were performed, and even though there were a few minor concerns, these could be handled as outpatient appointments, and Myles was able to go home!
The first couple weeks were filled with newborn bliss, brotherly bonding and of course sleepless nights.
It was within the first few weeks of Myles’ life that Kelsey and Trevor started noticing some symptoms that were a cause for concern. There were many doctor, pediatrician and hospital visits, and trials and errors of different medications to aid in alleviating some of the symptoms Myles was experiencing.
Unfortunately these medications weren’t helping, Myles wasn’t eating, and he was eventually diagnosed with Failure To Thrive. Myles was hospitalized and even more testing was ordered, such as much more bloodwork, x-rays, ultrasounds, an echocardiogram, ECGs, and a swallow study. He’s being treated for severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, a kidney infection and endocrine imbalances, and has had several IVs placed, and currently has a feeding tube.
On Sunday, March 20th, at the young age of 9 weeks old, baby Myles was diagnosed with Cystic Encephalomalacia, a rare and very severe condition that means that Myles has brain damage that has caused pieces of his brain to disappear and refill with spinal fluid. This was likely caused from either a stroke or a blood clot while in utero, but at this point, there are so many unknowns and unanswered questions that will hopefully be answered within the coming days, weeks, months and years. The pediatricians in Owen Sound are consulting with pediatric neurologists and neuro radiologists in London to determine next steps for Myles. This will likely include an MRI being performed under general anesthesia. At this point, it’s uncertain what Myles’ future holds.
Trevor, Kelsey, Carson and Myles thank you for reading, for all your kind words and prayers, and thank you immensely for your much appreciated support!
