On March 3rd 2021 I received a text from Grace, one of my oldest and dearest friends, that said “Hey I just wanted to let you know that Ray and I are at the hospital, and baby Kai is here. I went into preterm labor. I was exactly 27 weeks todays. He was 2lbs and 3oz. . .” I couldn’t even read it from that point on, it was such a shocking and hard text to receive!!
Currently Kai is at one of the best NICUs in NJ - Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Kai is considered a micro-preemie. When he was born he let out a cry which was such great news. However he is currently intubated and receiving 20% oxygen and is still hovering around 2lbs. He is tolerating his food via tube feeding, and has received 2 blood transfusions since March 3rd. The hardest part is not being able to stay with Kai or take him home, for they have a little one at home they already take care of. Grace and Ray, her boyfriend, drive up to New Brunswick every chance they get to see Kai. As of right now Kai will be there until his due date which is June 2nd.
Grace and Ray have a beautiful 9 month old girl at home named Madalyn, and they also have two rainbow babies that we never got to meet. This has all transpired over the past 3 years. To say the least, Grace and Ray have been through a lot as a family.

Luckily Grace and Ray have an amazing support system of friends and family who are doing everything they can to help them during this difficult time.
Sometimes we have to ask for a little help for our friends.
If you would like to donate to Grace and Ray to help with gas money to New Brunswick, NJ from Toms River, NJ (1hr 15 min drive) tolls, gas, and medical bills it would be GREATLY appreciated. After everything they've been through over the past 3 years, they need a win and they need some help to get by while they continue to visit Kai for the next 3 months.
Please keep Kai in your thoughts and prayers, and we'll keep you posted with his story on here!
