Eden's Story:
Every Mother’s Worst Nightmare: Her precious only child is a heroin/fentanyl addict. Despite numerous rehabs and treatment centers, he lives on the streets. His dad committed suicide when he was a teen and he has never really recovered emotionally. Sadly, the suffering doesn't end there. His girlfriend (another heroin/Fentanyl/Meth addict) became pregnant and continued to use multiple substances while pregnant. Now this baby (Eden) continues to fight for her life as she struggles with NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome). It hurts her to be touched, she is non verbal and autistic. She was on tube feedings and is having a 2nd surgery to assist her to feed properly. She slept only 1-hour at a time and has multiple neurological issues. The bio-mother has been in/out of prison. Due to the continued substance abuse with both bio-parents, their parental rights have been severed. Grace, Eden’s paternal grandmother is currently working to adopt Eden. However, the maternal grandmother is sworn to kidnapping her no matter what the courts have ordered. She has dual citizenship and threatens to take Eden out of the US -never be seen again. This woman has addiction issues and has lost all of her kids to DCS. Furthermore, DCS has found her to be unfit to have unsupervised visits with Eden. The paternal grandmother is our close friend, Grace. She has been the sole caretaker for Eden since birth and is committed to raising her, loving her and providing the best home possible. A drug addicted neonate comes with a host of medical problems, but since Grace is a dedicated RN, she is doing everything she can. Now Grace and Eden need our help. Together with a few friends we are putting together a GoFundMe to raise $5000 for immediate expenses. This money is for specifics: medical bills, medications, housing, utilities (one is being shut off this evening), food and tires to keep the transportation going safely.
Grace was granted a 4 week maternity leave when DCS granted temporary custody. Unfortunately Grace had surgery (while caring for this infant alone) and her long term disability claim was denied. She needs our help to get back on her feet.
Call To Action:
In normal times, Grace is 100% self sufficient, pays her bills on time and always puts aside part of each check for emergencies. Covid hit, gas prices skyrocketed, the economy crashed and these are not normal times for anyone. Grace had emergency surgery herself and was laid off from her job, then her former employer stopped communicating with EDD & she was denied unemployment. She consistently applies for other jobs, but when she needs to take Eden for multiple appointments weekly many employers just say “Thanks but no thanks”. All of us are struggling, some more than others. If you can make a donation, every little bit helps. My wife & I will post updates from Grace to let you know how things are going. Grace is alone without any family - we need to be her family.
How You May Help:
Please Pray. Support in this department is free and helps dramatically. If you can, please donate - even if it's only $5.00. If you wish to send a message of encouragement, that is also appreciated. If anyone needs to see copies of receipts to show how the money is being sent, just send me a message. Thank you to everyone who reads this!
