Sally and Jacob waited a long time to have a baby. They wanted everything in their life set up so that when the baby arrived everything would be perfect. They worked hard and saved every penny.
Four months ago Sally went into labor and gave birth to beautiful baby Arthur Stryder Gibson. After two weeks at home Sally’s motherly instinct kicked in and she knew something wasn’t right. She took him to the pediatrician and pushed for further testing. When they found his bilirubin numbers to be incredibly high, Jacob and Sally rushed him to UC Davis where they received incredible care and found out that Arthur was born with a rare occurrence of biliary atresia.
Arthur successfully made it through a kasai surgery. After a month stay at the hosptial recovering and finally getting back home and ready to start normal baby life, Arthur then suffered from another life threatening occurrence. This time his bowels had twisted and after multiple surgeries, he now has short bowel syndrome wherein they removed almost all his small intestine.
These two health occurrences are not just rare but almost never occur both in one child.
His future is still unknown but he’s is such a fighter and the happiest loving sweet boy through it all. That being said, Sally has had to give up her job for now to manage his care 24/7 which any mother would do as it’s impossible to leave his side. She holds on to every precious moment she has and for this Type A super planner who always has a budget for everything and never asks anyone for help, we can only imagine the financial strain this will take on their family going forward.
While Sally and Jacob would never ask for help, as their friends we know that everyone has reached out wondering how they can help. Contributing whatever you can and sharing this is one way of saying that we are all here for their family in good times and tough times and together we will get baby Arthur Styder Gibson back home. We can't wait to have him back in our lives.
