Hello, I'm Aya Abu Samra. I started this campaign to seek help for myself and my three children after the tragic loss of their father. We were once a happy family—a mother, a father, and three children. My children are Reema, age 7; Yamen, age 6; and Bana, age 2.
We lived peacefully until October 7th, when the fierce war on Gaza began, and we lost my husband, the father of my three children. Thus, began our journey of suffering, without a father, provider, or the central figure in their lives. Our hardships started in this brutal war, leading to continuous displacement.
My three children and I have endured over 150 days of suffering, the most excruciating being the loss of their father, the pillar of their lives. Our first displacement began following the occupying army's instructions, as we sought safety in the city. However, safety proved elusive in Gaza. After multiple displacements, we eventually settled in Rafah, living in plastic tents for three months. Our ordeal included all forms of hardship—oppression, humiliation, displacement, cold, hunger, and illness. Words fail to capture the sheer horror and injustice we faced under inadequate shelter. I navigated this hardship alone, without my husband and without a father figure for my children, until a glimmer of hope emerged for our escape from the atrocities. The constant fear of losing my children haunted me, driving me to seek refuge in Egypt after exhausting all other avenues. Now, my three children and I await our fate.
Upon arriving in a new, unfamiliar country with my three children, possessing nothing, no means of support, no job, and no residency papers in this country, we face significant challenges. According to local law, we are not allowed to leave or even return to Gaza after the oppressive occupation army took control of the Rafah border crossing. We also lack legal residency here. Now, I am at a loss, as the option to return to Gaza with my children has become impossible. I appeal to you for mercy, to help me provide the basic necessities of life for my children, which they have been deprived of during the war, and may now be unable to access because we are here in Egypt without papers, work, or a means of support. It is my children's right to live like any other child in the world and to have the opportunity for education, a fundamental right for every person. I hope you can assist me in enrolling my children in an educational institution, a very simple right for them.
One crucial reason that drove me to start this campaign is that my children have been deprived of education for 8 months. As mentioned earlier, my main motivation for this campaign is to urge all of you to help me enroll my children in schools so they can resume their education without deprivation.
I genuinely and earnestly beg all good people to assist my family and myself in providing them with the essentials for living so we can begin a new life.
Here is the breakdown of the money:
Rent and living expenses in Egypt, which include food and clothing, amount to about 600–800 USD per month for my family for the first six to twelve months until we obtain official residency papers in Egypt and find suitable job opportunities.
Enrolling the three children—Reema, Yamen, and Bana—in educational schools costs around $500 per month for a duration of 6 to 12 months until I can obtain official documents and enroll them in public schools, as well as find suitable employment."
