In the midst of a tragedy, it’s often children that suffer the most. In the case of Jamie and Aviana Flickinger, that is the reality that the Flickinger family is faced with.

Jamie Flickinger was a mother, a sister, a friend - and a victim of domestic violence. She was also a diabetic. After suffering years of life-threatening abuse at the hands of her daughter’s father, Jamie went into hiding and fled into the protection of a safe haven for women. While working hard to rebuild a life for her and her daughter, Jamie tragically suffered a diabetic coma that took her life on March 1st. This leaves her 2 year old daughter, Aviana, without a mother or a safe parent to care for her.

Debbie Flickinger (mother of Jamie) and Kim Flickinger (Jamie’s sister and Avi’s aunt), along with Kim’s husband and children, are working hard to fight for custody of Aviana. Knowing the fathers history of extreme violence, the family knows that she will have a much more stable and safer life with them. She will grow up knowing love, knowing what family means and surrounded by people that care for her and will share wonderful memories of her mother.

One of the biggest challenges the family faces in rescuing and adopting Aviana are the legal fees. This will be a long, expensive road, but they are willing to fight to save her and give her the life her mother was working so hard to provide.
