In January 2016, Avery's biological father passed away leaving him legally fatherless at the tender age of 4. As tragic and unfortunate as it is that his biological father is no longer living, he has yet to go a day without a father.
Since the age of 2, Avery has called Adam Harward "daddy". Heavenly Father went through great lengths to line up an amazing daddy for Avery in the shadows of his loss. You see, He sent me, Avery's mother, across the country to Utah for reasons that were unclear at the time. With no intentions, expectations or actual desire to search for love, I met Adam and immediately felt the prompting of the spirit to make this man an eternal part of our broken family. With courage and a HUGE leap of faith, I walked the aisle and we made a commitment of life to one another. And soon after, we made a commitment of forever to each other. And to Avery. Our union was never complete without the inclusion of Avery. From the first time Adam and Avery met, it was no longer just me and Adam. He quickly loved him and has loved this child fervently. This love was obvious when you looked into Avery's eyes as he looked upon this man he called "daddy". And that look has only grown stronger as these years have passed.
As much as Adam is a father to Avery, as much as Avery accepts him as a father, and as much as he provides like a father for Avery-there are many things he can't legally do. It's comes as no surprise that he has wanted nothing more than to adopt Avery and prove his commitment to always be there for him. To be the man that Heavenly Father chose to heal the pain of the loss of his biological father. To keep him from going through this life without the love and guidance that every child deserves from a father. And to be the example of a man of the house who leads his family in faith, prayer, and the word of God. Our plans to complete the adoption were halted when it came to light that filing an uncomplicated Step Parent Adoption petition is impossible without an attorney in the state of Georgia. Along with attorneys fees are various document fees, background check charges, and other miscellaneous expenses to supply the courts with what is required by law. While we know we have forever together, we feel the need to finally give Avery all the rights to a father, legally.
