Hello

My name is Ava and I am about to travel to Malawi to volunteer with AGE Africa. AGE Africa is an organization dedicated to empowering adolescent girls in rural areas of Malawi through education scholarships, life and leadership skills and awareness.

I am embarking on this journey because I have always been grateful for my education and experiences. I have been blessed to participate in leadership and development experiences which have had a profound impact on my life and I am driven to share this with the intention of positively impacting others and giving back. It is unsettling to know that there are girls my age and younger who do not know their potential and what is possible.

While in Malawi I will be visiting public schools in rural areas, engaging in round table discussions, assisting to facilitate the afterschool empowerment program and participating in a radio broadcast. The focus for these activities is empowerment and awareness. While in Malawi I intend to capture and record my trip and turn this into a digital resource which AGE Africa can utilize to assist with fundraising and awareness. As I am the first teen to embark on this particular journey part of the purpose is also to create an opening for other teens to become involved and I will be exploring creative ways for this to occur. I will also be creating an instagram page to provide donors the opportunity to follow my journey and see first hand the impact of their donation. The funds raised will be used to cover the cost to travel to and from Malawi and the costs involved while in Malawi. I am responsible for all costs associated with the trip.
