Help Support My Mom, Author Kristy K. James, in Her Fight Against Cancer
Hello, my name is Nikki, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart. My mom, Kristy K. James, is an incredible woman—an author of sweet romance novels, a woman of faith, and the backbone of our family. She’s always been the one to take care of others, especially me, my daughter (who my mom has helped raise since she was just 8 months old), and my special needs brother.
A few weeks ago, our world turned upside down. Mom started getting dizzy and would suddenly fall. At first, we thought it might be lingering issues from a car accident, where a driver ran a stop sign and hit the side of the van where Mom was sitting. She went to a chiropractor a few times, but when she fell out of bed one morning, I knew something wasn’t right. I took her to our local hospital, and what they found has changed everything.
Three masses—one on her brain, one on her lungs, and one on her cervix. It was devastating to hear. Mom has been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, and the doctors believe it has metastasized to her brain. We are still waiting on a biopsy for the mass on her cervix. On September 3rd, she begins radiation treatments. We're still waiting for a full prognosis, but the uncertainty is overwhelming.
Earlier this year, my father—Mom's husband—passed away after several years of illness. Not long after, my cousin suddenly died. Both times, I had to take time off from my job to help with arrangements and care for the family. Now, with Mom’s diagnosis, I find myself in a situation where I need to be there for her every step of the way—but I’ve run out of vacation time, and if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. The stress of unpaid time off, upcoming medical bills, and even preparing for winter—such as fixing the van and winterizing the house—has become a burden too great for me to carry alone.
I have never been one to ask for help like this, but my mom is my world. I’m scared for her, and I want to give her the best care possible as she fights this battle. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us during this incredibly difficult time. And if you’re unable to donate, you can support my mom by visiting her website and buying one of her books. Every bit of help, whether financial or just sharing her story, is appreciated more than words can express.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers. I will keep this page updated with any new information as we continue this journey.
Much love and gratitude,
Nikki
