Hi, I'm Kim McMullen, founder and executive director of Girl in the Wild, a non-profit that provides free confidence-building camps in wild spaces for struggling teens.
In 2024, Athena applied for camp and was accepted to spend a week with us in the remote backcountry in the Kootenay Mountains with 7 other deserving youth. Our camp is free from drop-off to pick-up — but Athena lives some 3000km away. So her generous and doting parents, Cheshmak and Mike, borrowed $3000 to fund Athena's trip West.
Sadly, 24 hours before camp, a raging wildfire made it impossible for camp to proceed.
Athena and her dad were already on a plane to BC. And camp was cancelled. It was crushing for us all.
We promised Athena a place at camp again this year. She earned it and is so excited to join us! We offered to help her family raise the funds for the travel costs so she can join us this year.
However, it's going to cost her family another $3000 to make it happen for her this year.We REALLY want to make it happen. Athena deserves to rise.
We are asking you to support Athena and her family with travel costs.
All funds raised here go directly into their bank account. This isn't a fundraiser for Girl in the Wild; it's for Athena.
An incredible young human whom we'd LOVE to see at camp this year.
