Help family of 4 with no home!
Donation protected
Hi everyone
My name is Elizabeth and over the last couple of months I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a really wonderful family who recently arrived here in Oak Park after a long harrowing journey beginning in Venezuela, in July. My family and I instantly connected with this family and we have really just been helping each other out. It’s been amazing and these kind, spirited, incredibly strong people are such a gift to my family. Dayana and Edicxon have two sons- ages 7 and 20. Their little boy has gotten situated and through many kind donations the 3 of them have gotten enough warm clothes etc and the new D97 2nd grader loves his new school!
One thing that this family doesn’t have is a Home to live in.
Another thing missing is their oldest son, Luis who is detained in TX awaiting judges deciding what happens and if he can stay or not. The family needs a lawyer for both of their cases.
Myself, my family and my community have thus far been getting them by with food, clothing, and even (temporary) shelter.
They are facing many obstacles
They must retain an attorney, file a motion to move their case from TX to IL, obtain evidence or proof of qualification for asylum, such as evaluations, retain another attorney to help get Luis out of incarceration in TX separated from his family, have cell phones food and clothing etc, and then *after* 150 days have passed since application for asylum (which can’t be done until xyz happen, which xyz also cost $$$) they can apply for work permits. They have no way to earn money until then, yet they still have many needs which continue to grow.
My goal is to raise enough money to support them for the next 6-12 months as well as help with the increasing legal expenses. This will cost at least $15,000-$20,000.
After watching 7 year old cry for missing his big brother, nearly inconsolable, I feel driven to do anything I can to get the family reunited. I CANNOT do this ALONE!
Will you please help me reach this goal and help give this wonderful family a good start? Will you please share this with your networks? I’m not familiar with this feeling of asking my community for donations but this is TOO important. Feeling compelled to help this family has erased any qualms I’ve had about asking for help. Families belong together. Everyone deserves a fair chance and basic needs like food and shelter!
Your donations and support will make my continued support of this family, securing permanent housing, expediting the process of getting Luis here, all possible. Please consider helping me help my beautiful wonderful new friends.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support! This community always amazes me the way they come through for their neighbors ❤️
