My name is Jacqueline Brown Haffenden (many people on social media know me as Jacqueline Watchie Brown). I was born and raised in Asia Top, Manchester, Jamaica, and I now live in Poughkeepsie, New York. Asia Top is the community that raised me, shaped me, and taught me the meaning of faith, unity, and love.

Hurricane Melissa has caused serious destruction in Asia Top. Many families have lost food, clean water, and personal care supplies. Some homes were damaged, and many people are struggling right now to meet basic daily needs. These are my childhood neighbors, elders, and families who once supported me — and now I am stepping up to support them.

My relationship to the people

These are the people I grew up with. I still have family, friends, and close community connections in Asia Top. This is personal — I know the people who will receive this help.

How the funds will be spent

All money raised will go directly toward:

• food and non-perishable groceries

• bottled drinking water

• personal hygiene & care items (soap, toothpaste, sanitary products, wipes, deodorant, toilet tissue, etc.)

• other basic emergency supplies to help families recover after the storm

These items will be purchased and distributed to families in Asia Top, Manchester, Jamaica.

I will remain transparent and accountable, and I will make sure your support reaches the people it is intended for.
