Help Ashton fight Congential Heart disease
Baby Ashton - Please help this beautiful family
and Ashton, every donation helps, thank you for your support at this terrible time x
Scott and I found out when I was pregnant that our baby boy had a complex congenital heart disease, he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of fallot, VSD & ASD, Pulmonary Artesia and Double outlet right ventricle.
Never had we imagined the trauma we would have to endure alongside him once he was born. Within 5-6 hours of birth, Ashton had to have emergency surgery to correct his trachea and oesophageal as they were connected. This left narrowing of his oesophagus and extreme damage to his trachea (tracheomalacia - floppy airways) from the ventilator.
After 2 long weeks of recovering and many cancelled surgery dates (due to other babies needing urgent surgery) Ashton finally went in for the planned heart surgery. He was having a right BT shunt put in, this would help oxygen get to where it needed, more efficiently. The first night of his recovery in ICU, Ashtons new heart couldn't cope and sent him into cardiac arrest. The nurses and Dr's did absolutely amazing in getting him back and stable. Overall, once born we spent 6-7weeks in NICU before we could go home. Ashton slowly met all of his family and was met with nothing but warmth and gratitude, for the thought that we could even bring him home.
Ashton also has bowel issues and had to head into hospital late last year for the start of another 2 procedures to correct this issue. His trachea, oesophageal and bowels are all connected with his CHD.
Fast forward to now, Ashton was supposed to have his 'heart repair' when he was around 18months, he's only 9 months old and needed to have it much sooner as his oxygen levels were dropping lower than his normal. His heart surgery went brilliant, it was around 6 hours that he was in and back in ICU. It's since then that things haven't quite worked out, it's been 3 weeks since his surgery and Ashton has come close to needing urgent life saving intervention more than a couple of times, a collapsed lung and his first cold! He is still fighting strong and we are doing the best we can.
We also have two boys at home who are missing out on their brother and love him dearly. It's hard to share yourself physically and mentally when you feel the need to be in two places at once. We are forever grateful for the love and support we have received ever since Ashton was born.
