Hello everyone, my name is Armando and I’m reaching out for help as I navigate the challenging process of obtaining my green card through marriage due to the high application fees.
I have been able to accomplish so much in this country personally and professionally, like graduating from my acting school, meeting the love of my life, developing lifelong friendships, supporting my family in Venezuela financially, and working in incredible places. New York is truly home to me, and the last thing I want is to be put in a situation where I could be separated from my husband, my dog Milo, and my very close friends. My husband and I are doing everything we can to cover the legal and application fees, but the costs are overwhelming for us right now. We simply cannot afford the expenses on our own, and unfortunately, my family back in Venezuela is unable to help due to the ongoing crisis in my home country.
In addition to these challenges, I am also helping cover my father's cancer treatment in Peru, as well as managing rent here in NYC, bills, and many other financial responsibilities. Because of all these obligations, it has been impossible for me to save for the application fees required for my green card process.
In the past, I was able to work legally in the US thanks to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) due to the conflicts in Venezuela. However, my TPS has not been renewed, and I have had to give up all my working opportunities. This has made it extremely difficult to meet my financial needs and pay for the legal fees required for my immigration process.
I want to be clear that my main intention is not to seek a green card for any reason other than to continue building my life with the family I love—my husband and our dog Milo. My journey is rooted in love and the desire to stay together, not in any other interest.
Receiving support for these expenses would be truly life-changing. With a green card, I would finally be able to work and live freely in the United States, without fear of deportation or having to take risks that could jeopardize my future. It would also allow me to travel and reconnect with my family—especially my father, who is battling cancer, and my mom, whom I haven’t seen in almost 10 years. Being able to visit them and support them during this difficult time means everything to me.
Right now, my options for work are extremely limited because I do not have a valid work permit. I want to do things the right way and build a secure, stable future for myself and my husband.
