When Ariana held Sergio for the first time, her heart was filled with overwhelming love but also overwhelming pain. Sergio had been conceived as a result of sexual assault.
For most mothers, the day their child is born is filled with pure joy. For Ariana, that joy was mixed with heartbreak. She was only 19 when she experienced a trauma no girl should ever have to face. She was the victim of sexual violence. Though she sought justice, the legal process did not bring the result she hoped for, and she was left to rebuild her life while carrying deep emotional wounds. The early days of motherhood were not easy. The pregnancy and birth sometimes brought back painful memories, and bonding with her son took time. But through courage, healing, daily commitment, and Bible studies through the local church, her love for Sergio grew stronger each day. Today, he is her greatest joy and her deepest motivation.
We met Ariana when we hired her as a virtual assistant based in Medellín, Colombia. At the time, she was in the midst of her pregnancy and already two years into a demanding culinary arts program. Despite carrying her child, giving birth, and healing from trauma, she completed the full three year program and graduated. Now she wants to build a stable future for her son using the skills she worked so hard to earn. Her dream is to start a small home based baking business specializing in wedding cakes. She has the training. She simply needs a little help getting started.
To help turn that dream into something sustainable, we are raising funds so Ariana can purchase the supplies she needs to begin baking cakes and cover basic living expenses as she builds her business. Because of the exchange rate, even a few American dollars can allow Ariana and Sergio to live a very humble and dignified life in Colombia.
The funds raised will go toward essential items such as baking equipment, ingredients, basic kitchen tools, and the supplies needed to begin taking her first cake orders. A portion will also help cover modest living expenses for Ariana and Sergio during the early months while she builds a small customer base. The goal is not simply to provide temporary relief, but to help Ariana create a sustainable source of income that can support her family long term.
This support will give them a real chance to build a life beyond poverty. Ariana is not defined by what happened to her, but by her resilience and determination to create a better future for her son. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference in Ariana and Sergio’s lives. Every contribution helps move them closer to stability and independence. And if you cannot donate, sharing her story means just as much.
