Hi guys, a lot of you may know me and my partner but for those who don’t - my name is Apollo and my fiancée’s name is Olive. We are starting this because we’re basically at the end of our rope, and our future is becoming uncertain. As some of you may know, Olive and I have been homeless since August 31st, 2024. We are on the precipice of getting out of our homelessness and need a little bit of a financial boost to help us get there. Below is our story, but to make it TLDR, due to housing and medical costs, we are looking to raise $4000 to cover any medical and mobility aids for Olive, as well as raise a higher deposit for us to give to a prospective apartment when we move out in January/February. We appreciate anything from a share to a donation, and I want to make a quick shout out to everyone who has helped us so far: Dakota, Brandi, Jordin, Morgan, Bri, Austin, Astro and the family. You all mean the world to us, and have helped us more than we could possibly imagine. We love you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We’ve had unstable housing since December of 2023 when we were texted by a realtor saying our new landlord was selling the apartments and nobody knew if we were going to have to leave. During that entire time, my partner and I had to both go on a medical leave - I needed physical therapy for my hip and had to hold up our household while Olive was hospitalized and was in and out of PHPs. Our heat never worked during the winter, we had several pest infestations, and were being charged $800 a month by our electric company for heat that didn’t work. When I called the electric company, we were told to call fuel assistance and the health department. I called fuel assistance and SNAP as we were losing money more than we were making it, and were denied by both because “we made too much”. We eventually called the health department, who came out almost immediately and cited our property management and new landlords for 8 different health code violations. For months, we were living in black mold suffering health issues. We were not given any final answer on whether or not we were even allowed to stay in the apartment by the new landlords until roughly 2 weeks before the new landlords closed the deal on the new place. We never even got the chance to get a bed frame or unpack anything because we were living on the edge of having to potentially move - again. We lost our court case, and were forced to move in with some folks we considered friends at the time.
Our next living situation was less than ideal, we were charged by our roommates more than 61% of their total rent and with the monthly cost of $1100 on top of having to buy our own groceries because they were claimed to be “too expensive”, my credit took a nosedive. I couldn’t afford to pay off any of my credit cards because it was either housing or credit, and housing came first. I don’t want to talk any ill will towards these people so that’s all I will say on that matter, but this living situation has impacted our finances to this day and we have not recovered.
We were taken in by our dear friends Brandi and Dakota who have been so kind and patient and more helpful than we ever could imagine. They would like to move to Maine, and we want them to have the life they deserve. Unfortunately, due to the our previous living situation, I was unable to pay for any of my credit cards and my credit took a nosedive. Olive has become almost fully disabled since then due to several health issues and we are now, finally, getting some headway on diagnoses. We are closer than ever to getting help for her! Our current struggle is that we want to be out by the time our friends move to Maine, and be back on our own. I’m on section 8 waitlists, housing voucher waitlists, I’ve applied and done everything I can to try to get us on the path to housing. I’ve tried fixing my credit the best I can, and I’ve worked my ass off to try to support my family, all while being olives full time caretaker. This is our story, and if you’ve read this far, I want to give you a true and heartfelt thank you. Thank you for listening. For reading. For even caring. We need help. We’ve made this go fund me to help us not only get mobility aids and other medical necessities for Olive, but also to help us secure housing. If we cannot get section 8 or anything, we’re hoping that an apartment or landlord will accept a higher deposit to battle my credit. Anything helps, I have financial plans to get everything on track but to save for an apartment, and also pay for olives medical needs is getting to be quite a lot for us. Our goal is $4000 total, but again, truly any amount helps. Thank you for reading, and if you’d like to leave your name on any donation, we’d like to eventually create personal thank yous to everyone who decides to donate.
