Earlier today, Antonio Ambrocio Duarte—a hardworking immigrant contractor who has quietly supported families in our neighborhood for years—suffered a devastating loss. After completing a renovation project, Antonio withdrew cash to pay his crew, most of whom are also immigrants working hard to support their own families. In a matter of minutes, while he stopped at a client’s house, thieves broke into his car and stole everything he had set aside for his workers. I witnessed the aftermath on my security camera and, though I barely knew Antonio, I was moved to help after seeing how deeply this loss affected him. He was unable to eat, overwhelmed with worry for his family and his crew.

Antonio came to this country to build a better life for his wife and children. Through his dedication and honest work, he’s become a trusted presence in our community, helping neighbors with repairs and renovations.
