Hi, my name is Samuel Weidenhofer. I run a kindness and mental health movement where I help make dreams come true for kids and families facing heartbreaking challenges.
Recently, I had the privilege of surprising Anthony Castillo a polite, kind-hearted 14-year-old with the chance to meet his hero, Alex Warren.
Watching Anthony light up in that moment is something his family and I will carry with us forever. Anthony’s journey was unimaginably tough.
After months of being misdiagnosed for severe leg pain, doctors discovered he had a rare and aggressive cancer called Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour (MPNST). Despite surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, the cancer continued to spread.
Anthony has since sadly passed away. Anthony was so much more than his illness. He loved God and Bible stories, was a huge Geelong supporter, loved his food, had a funny and gentle spirit, and was deeply loved by his close family his devoted single mum and three siblings.
His mum stepped away from work to care for him full-time, and the emotional and financial strain on the family has been overwhelming.
This fundraiser now exists to support Anthony’s family as they navigate life after his passing helping with day-to-day needs, ongoing expenses, and giving them space to grieve without the added weight of financial stress.
Every dollar raised will go directly to supporting the Castillo family. (Carmel, a trusted family friend, is listed as the beneficiary and will distribute the funds to Rebecca, Anthony’s mum.) Anthony’s life was filled with courage, love, and faith.
Even in his hardest moments, he reminded those around him what strength and kindness look like. If you’re able to donate big or small or share this fundraiser, you are helping surround this family with love, dignity, and support during the most difficult time of their lives. Thank you for your kindness, – Sam
