Support a Parsippany Sanitation Worker After a Serious On-the-Job Accident

Today began like any other shift for our sanitation crew in Parsippany early morning routes, neighborhood stops, and the routine work that keeps the town running. But it quickly turned into a day none of us will forget.

One of our coworkers Anthony Shandra, was seriously injured while performing his duties on the back of a sanitation truck. This kind of work carries risks that most people never think about, but every sanitation worker understands them well. When asked what the most dangerous part of the job is, the answer is always the same. Unfortunately, that concern became reality today for Anthony.

Our coworker was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. We are relieved to share that he is now in recovery. When we visited him, even in the midst of everything he has been through, he still managed to show the same humor and spirit that everyone on the crew knows him for. It was a small but powerful reminder of who he is as a person.

While his strength is undeniable, the road ahead will be long. Recovery will take time, and during that period he will face medical expenses, missed wages and significant challenges for himself and his family.

The sanitation department is a close-knit group. We look out for one another every day on the job, and we will continue to stand beside him throughout his recovery, providing support in every way we can.

We are asking our community to join us in helping him through this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward easing the financial burden while he focuses on healing.

This work may not always be noticed, but it is essential. Sanitation crews are out in every neighborhood, in all conditions, doing their part to keep the town clean and functioning. They start early, work in traffic, and face real risks every single day.

This incident is a reminder of how quickly things can change.

We also ask everyone in the community to remember: when you see a sanitation truck on the road, please slow down and give the crew space to work safely. Those extra seconds can make all the difference.

Thank you for your support, kindness, and generosity during this time.
