Anna and I have been friends since the fifth grade, and now, more than twenty years later, I can honestly say she is one of the kindest souls I’ve ever known. She’s the type of person who will give you the shirt off her back, always putting others before herself. That’s exactly how she found herself in this situation—living in my tiny camper with her two beloved rescue dogs, after a series of hardships that would have broken most people.
Earlier this year, Anna went through a painful breakup that forced her to sell her home, which was already headed for foreclosure. She’s faced nearly every kind of adversity, from a difficult childhood to recent abuse, but she’s never stopped caring for others. Even when money was tight, I watched her spend her last dollars on high-quality food for her dogs, while she made do with water and instant noodles. She’s been driving a rented car, but she’s behind on payments and could lose it any day. Her own car is broken down, and she’s trying to sell it just to scrape together enough for something reliable so she can get to work.
Despite all this, Anna hasn’t given up. She’s been staying with me for three weeks, applying for jobs non-stop, and I’m so grateful to share that she’s just landed a good one. The challenge now is that her first paycheck won’t come for about two weeks, and with winter approaching, my camper isn’t a safe or warm place for her and her dogs. I’m hoping to raise enough to help Anna get into a hotel or rental home, and if possible, secure reliable transportation so she can keep her new job. Anna would never ask for help herself, but I know she would be deeply grateful for any support. I believe there are still good people out there, and with your help, we can give Anna and her dogs the fresh start they deserve.
