Hello everyone, my friends Angie and her goddaughter Amanda have not been treated kindly by Florida and its systems since they’ve been here.
With all of the previous hurricanes since 2018, dangerous camps, and lack luster options provided by lee county services intended to “help” in any way other than giving them stable safe housing- they are stuck in limbo.
Currently, Amanda’s apartment has an
unattended bed bug infestation and a roommate who routinely threatens her. Angie is in her late 60s with a series of mental and physical ailments restricting her from working a typical 9-5 as is repeatedly suggested by these services. They haven’t given very thoughtful suggestions at all, and have recently resorted to suggesting her to put herself in a nursing home as if that’s a better option then just giving her and Amanda safe and stable housing options.
I’m sick of watching my friends get pushed around, with no one caring where they end up or what happens to them. It’s disgusting.
They both have a hotel right now but only until the 18th of March. ($187 per night)
I wanted to set up this fund to help them obtain a stable living situation and keep up with the day-today-day for the both of them (groceries, utilities, help pay off bills, etc.)
All of us are stifled by clerical nothings we’re forced to endure day after day but that burden is amplified tenfold when you are unhoused.
Every single task is its own thorough struggle. Nothing is a one trip, one click convenient anything for unhoused folks. Please do what you can to help out our community and get our friends off the streets.
