Help Angela stay in Australia

Hi, I am Marimi Tanag and I'm fundraising for the Tribunal fees of Ms Angela Gerente whose application for a permanent visa (Partner visa 820/801) as a dependent was refused because of her mother's death.

Angela’s mum, Cherry Gerente, died on August 2021 following a violent assault allegedly at the hands of her Australian husband. Initially, her husband was charged with assault causing serious harm, but police upgraded his charges after Ms Cherry Gerente died.

Her mother Cherry, who was the primary applicant in the application passed away before a decision was made on her visa applications. As a result, she is no longer an applicant. It is one of the criteria specified under the immigration laws of Australia for secondary applicants like Angela to be dependent on, or a member of a family unit of the primary applicant, which is her mother. As her mother is no longer an applicant or previously the holder of the subclass 820 visa due to her death, Angela's application for a permanent visa to Australia was refused.

I took over Angela's case now that it's already been refused and I'm handling her merits review to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Ministerial Intervention. I'm handling her application for free (pro bono), but to apply her appeal at the Tribunal, she needs to pay the filing fee at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal amounting to $3,153.

With the death of her mother, Angela has now left an orphan and had been on her own, with no family in Australia.

It was the dream of Angela's mother for her daughter to have a good life and future in Australia. She endured everything to achieve this dream but now this dream is shattered by her death, a violent death nobody deserves.

Angela had been fighting to get justice for her mother until now. Leaving Australia to go back to the Philippines would mean that the sacrifices of her mother were all for nothing. She will fight for her right to stay in Australia and achieve her mother's dreams, Angela wants to prove that her mother's death and sacrifices are not in vain, and we will help her in her fight.

We need to lodge the merits review before 6 April 2023 and pay the $3153. Please help us in this fight for justice. Thank you
