Asking for Prayers & Support for Our Sweet Granddaughter

Our family has been on an unexpected and emotional journey, and we are reaching out with humble hearts to ask for support for our daughter Angel, her husband Chris, and their precious baby girl.

At baby’s anatomy scan, doctors discovered she had only one kidney. Angel was closely monitored every four weeks, and at 32 weeks, doctors found a tumor on that one kidney. They were referred to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, where another scan showed there may possibly be three kidneys.

An MRI was scheduled for Wednesday, January 21st, to better understand the tumor and to create a plan for delivery and surgery after birth. Angel was being monitored twice a week.

However, at her scan on Friday, January 16th, it was discovered that the tumor had grown, and Angel had begun labor at 36 weeks and 6 days.

On January 19th, Angel and Chris welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world. After birth, an ultrasound revealed the tumor now measures 6 x 8 cm, and at this time, only one kidney is visible.

Baby will be flown to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City for surgery, and what lies ahead looks to be a long and extended stay. Angel and Chris are facing travel expenses, time off work, and the emotional toll of being far from home while caring for their newborn.
