We are hopeful that we can help Ashley and her family get back on their feet after several unfortunate events. We are absolutely determined to help one of the most optimistic, kind, and gracious individuals we know. Never one to complain and deeply humble, I only found out about these challenges after quite a long conversation. Ashley Espy is a friend, cherished babysitter, and one of the greatest preschool teachers out there! We have been lucky enough to get to know her through the Jewish Community Center where she has been teaching for several years and where our sons go to preschool. The boys love to see Miss Ashley at school and especially love when she babysits. We can always rely on her to take excellent care of them. Her gentle presence, optimistic attitude, and sense of humor are cherished by everyone who knows her. And of course, she is FUN!
Last October the Espys experienced a devastating fire in their apartment, almost completely destroying the complex. Just as the Espy's were finding their new normal, in a span of less than 6 months Ashley experienced the death of her father-in-law, gained full custody of his surviving son Samuel, lost housing, and her full-time job due to health problems and being unable to work. Ashley's wife lost her job due to Covid-19 as well. Their Emergency Fund was drained. Her sons Martavion and Terryon are devastated by the loss of their Grandpa. Gratefully she inherited her father-in-laws home, however it is very significant disrepair. It is also in Cincinatti, meaning the family will have to move and the boys will have to move schools. Although Ashley reached out to numerous organizations including the JCC and applied for Unemployement, no help has been received. She is still waiting on Unemployment (going on 15 weeks). The total cost of repairs and bills is estimated to be around $50,000. We are hoping to raise as much as possible but our beginning target is $10,000.
Her father-in-law's home needs much repair including the stairs which are not safe to walk on, a roof that needs to be replaced, and air conditioning units (both of Ashley’s sons have asthma). And because Ashley did not have many items to begin with after the fire the family also needs several appliances, furniture, clothes, and perhaps most importantly an Emergency Fund to provide a cushion for any difficulties that lie ahead.
There is NO amount too small, and we are grateful for any support you can give. We are also grateful if you can share this fundraiser!
