Anatoliy came to the United States as a refugee under the U4U program for Ukrainian refugees, seeking a better life away from the war. He received temporary parole status and has been in the US for approximately two years, working as an independent contractor in international trade. On May 8, 2026, Anatoliy suffered a disabling stroke that paralyzed his left arm and left leg. He was hospitalized at Detroit Receiving Center and later transferred to Optalis Assisted Living for continuing care.

As a Medicaid recipient, Anatoliy receives minimal physical therapy and faces significant challenges due to his disability. His left arm and leg remain weak, and he needs assistance with daily activities. Communication is difficult because Anatoliy is not fully fluent in English, making it hard for him to connect with his care team. The U4U program that once supported him has been discontinued, and navigating current immigration programs has proven to be very difficult.

Anatoliy's family in Ukraine is eager for him to return and receive extensive rehabilitation services. In Ukraine, he will have no insurance to pay for the therapies he needs, so the funds raised will help cover the cost of his rehabilitation at a center in Lviv. His sister in Monastrys'ka, Ternopil, is willing to help care for him. Sadly, Anatoliy has limited friends and resources in the US.
