Help an Unhoused Neighbor with Cancer
Donation protected
Dave Freckleton is an elder in our East Bay community who immigrated to the U.S. at 16 from Jamaica. He was a football player at Kent State Ohio and is currently unhoused. He lived for a long time in a van with broken windows on the streets of Oakland. He is now in a hotel in Oakland. Dave has metastatic prostate cancer, receives weekly chemo therapy and badly needs financial support, as he is not eligible for any government benefits—no unemployment, no SSI, no food stamps, no general assistance--because he is undocumented.
Dave has been living off of small donations from community members but is now struggling to get even that. He needs money for gas to get to his medical appointments in Castro Valley and Oakland. He eats some days thanks to meals at St. Vincent DePaul, however, with severe allergies and complications from chemotherapy Dave goes hungry sometimes as those meals are not always allergen free. Never mind, all the other expenses that come up—car maintenance, phone bills, laundry, basic hygiene products, etc. etc.
Dave lives to help others. As a former stock broker and investment banker, he advocates for other people in need. He volunteers at St. Vincent DePaul and helps the homeless navigate social services to get the benefits he himself cannot get. Regardless of whatever happens on any given day, he keeps a promise he made to 2 homeless men near Jack London to bring them lunch. His response to the most challenging of life circumstances is love and empathy for other people.
A donation to Dave allows him to live a more dignified life and to positively impact many others as well. Please show Dave some love and give ANY amount you can and then SHARE the link to this page.
