Hi all! I'm Phoenix, a 20-year-old autistic and transgender Hispanic adult residing with my family in Tennessee. My mom and sister both also reside on the autism spectrum with me, my sister being queer along with my mom being an avid supporter of both of us. After about twelve years of living in our relatively calm and suitable home with our roommate, he has unfortunately passed away due to long ongoing illnesses as of the morning of January 10th.
Because of complications regarding paperwork and where the house he owns goes to, the chances of stable housing for me and my family are likely very low. While some things keep us afloat from our past rent, such as my sister and mom's part-time jobs, we're all struggling to make ends meet due to transportation issues, financial problems, and not being able-bodied enough for work - and would most definitely struggle to pay off any actual attempts to buy the house we live in permanently. I fear the possibility of us losing our footing, being forced to go homeless, or going into a place that does not allow our pets, as we have no place for them to go to.
The stress of losing our roommate, someone we considered not just our friend, but like family, has only served to make us trying to make those ends meet even harder and harsher to try to get through. We have never really tried to do something like a gofundme or asking for donations before, and I find that now is the time that we need help the most.
My mom and sister are the strongest and bravest women I know, and I'd do anything on my part to ensure that we all have a safe and warm place to go to. Our pets and his pets deserve a good home spent with us too.
Our family needs to raise about $4,000 or more for various things, such as:
- paying our current bills
- finding a new home to either rent or buy
- paying for any other financial costs (i.e. phone and internet bills)
- paying for things such as new glasses for my mom or any emergency costs
- preparing for college for a higher education for both me and my sister
While my sister and mom are employed, it appears that it is just not enough to help us keep going - to no fault of their own, the state of finances, the economy, and housing are harsh and rough for us. Even with every single thing that's tried to take us down - homophobia, illness, prejudice, and loss, here we still stand. And thus, we must keep going. These costs will go towards our funding while my sister and mom continue to be paid, and while I continue to try to get extra funding from my art commissions to support us.
[ Update, Morning of January 13, 2025 ] : Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Each one has managed to bring a smile to my mom and sister's faces and mine, it's truly so shocking to me how much people are willing to help, even when I wasn't able to share this with so many people around me. As of now, it is most definitely confirmed - we will have to leave our home quite soon, estimated to be at least 60 days from now. I won't get too into how I feel about the arrangements and what's gone on behind the scenes, but it's become much more dire for me to share this as much as possible. Once again, thank you all for your support so far. Hopefully, we will get through this. Every dollar given so far has given me the hope that we will make it. We also now have a cashapp option for those who would prefer that option, feel free to contact me for more info!
[ Update, Night of January 13, 2025 ] : Great news! We're already at 41% towards our goal, and I can't thank each and every one of you enough more. We've had family, friends, and many others come forward to donate and we all are truly so appreciative of every single dollar sent to us. The hunt for a house and having little time to grieve is hard, but you all give us hope to keep going. Thank you again for everything so far ^_^. Lots of love!
Every single dollar, share, and boost helps us! It's always appreciated! Thank you for any shares or time spent reading this. If you would prefer a contribution that involves a sketch or drawing from me, consider sending me a message on bluesky, username robotcoded (I also have an Instagram of the same name, but the art there is a bit outdated)!
