We’re reaching out today on behalf of a beloved community member - an asylum seeker who fled violence in Colombia in search of safety, dignity, and a future. After an incredibly difficult journey, including several harrowing months detained by ICE upon arrival in the U.S., he is now rebuilding his life in Portland, Oregon.
Since then, he has made extraordinary progress. He was recently granted a work permit, secured a stable job, and just got married. For the first time in a long time, he is starting to feel safe. He is beginning to dream again of building a future, supporting his family, and contributing to the community that has welcomed him.
But this dream is now under threat.
To remain in the U.S. and continue on his path to safety and stability, he is facing thousands of dollars in immigration legal fees. As someone who just received work authorization, he does not yet have the financial resources to cover these urgent legal costs. Without legal representation, he is at serious risk of being deported - torn away from his wife, his job, and the life he has worked so hard to build.
This is a critical moment. With the community’s help, he can continue his journey toward safety and legal residency. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings him one step closer to keeping his family together and securing the future he deserves.
Please consider supporting this campaign. Your generosity can help protect a life, a marriage, and a community that relies on his safety to keep from being torn apart.
Below is a breakdown of the costs from the immigration lawyer. He has already filed his asylum application with USCIS on his own, so these fees are for his legal defense. We understand it’s a big ask, but we are hoping to at least cover the initial $3,000 deposit since that is more of an immediate burden.
Thank you for standing with immigrant communities.
