Help Afghan Refugee Rahmana in Pakistan

My name is Somaya, Afghani national residing in BC - seeking help in raising funds for my close friend from Afghanistan, who’s like a sister to me, Rahmana Ahmadi.

Rahmana is a beautiful, charismatic and hard working 19 year old Afghan woman, who was forced to flee her home during the Taliban take over on August 15, 2021. Since then, she has been residing as an illegal refugee in Pakistan, in fear of her wellbeing and safety. Rahmana has been supporting herself through school until the Taliban Regime took over. With their views of women in the workplace, she has been alone and forced to stay home in fear of her safety, and she is unable to continue to support herself.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to collect funds so that she could safely move to Canada. The Government of Canada has a sponsorship program through which private persons and organizations may sponsor an Afghan refugee. The Afghan refugee receives a residence permit to Canada if the private sponsors commit to cover the refugee’s first year’s costs in Canada (housing, food, transportation etc), amounting to approximately $20,000 CAD. $5000 CAD has been raised in Europe and now we need the support in raising the remaining $15,000 CAD. Rahmana has a Canadian sponsor but the funds are insufficient. Therefore, we wish to raise money to help cover the costs for Rahmana’s sponsorship program in Canada.

We need your help. Any donations will go towards Rahmana's Sponsorship Funds - and help assist her transition to Canada for the first year. The funds raised will be sent to the Unitarian Church of Vancouver. Once Rahmana arrives in Vancouver, the UCV will transfer funds to Rahmana monthly to help pay for her living arrangements, food, transportation and schooling for the first year.
