My name is Amber Hancock. Tragedy has once again struck my home and I’m asking for help. I lost my husband 13 months ago in an accident and decided to move to Florida for a new start. My husband and I have an 8 year old son together. I ordered a home from a mobile home dealership in Baxley, Georgia. 12 days ago I was informed that the lot had shut its doors and would not be fulfilling orders. I gave a significantly large down payment (to the tune of $146,000 which was my husbands life insurance money) for my home. The manufacturer will not release my home without the payment that the dealership pocketed and did not provide to them. I cannot take out another mortgage for a different home because I’m tied up in a mortgage with this home. I’m completely stuck. I’ve filed a police report, spoke to the attorney general, spoke to lawyers. None have high hopes of seeing my money anytime soon (if AT ALL). This is a devastating heartbreak for my family. I will put myself out there to get a house for my son who’s already been through so much. As a single mom, I will never be able to gather up enough money to receive my home by myself.
I am in a horrible situation with a lot of other people. I would never want to ask for money, but I am desperate in this situation just to get a roof over our heads and out of our camper. Thanks for listening and I hate this for all the families involved.
